Grounded Wellness Care
Hi! My name is Kelly Martin, I’m the founder/owner of Grounded Wellness Care, LLC. I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist, United States Marine Corps Veteran, and I’m practicing Fascial Counterstrain technique in Central PA. I was injured in 2019 and found that Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) and massage therapy were the most effective tools for my injury recovery. It’s important to me to feel strong and healthy. Both modalities of manual therapy have been allowing me to optimally function as a mom and wife since. I earned my massage therapy license in 2024 to learn how to heal others using FCS. My goal is to continue my education to become certified in fascial counterstrain so I can help others reach their wellness and health goals.
At one point or another in my journey I really prayed that each healthcare professional I was relying on would be honest, patient, well-educated and would not give up on me. I still pray for that every time I have to ask for help from a professional. Ultimately I want to be that professional for you now. Whether you’re feeling good, strong, and would like to keep it that way or whether you are like me at some point on a journey to recovery physically or psychologically; I believe Fascial Counterstrain and Massage Therapy are versatile, beneficial manual healing and wellness tools for many.
What is Fascial Counterstrain?
Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) is a manual therapy modality that indirectly relaxes the fascia throughout the body so your it can work more optimally the way it was designed to. See the “services” section of this website for my detailed description. If you’d like to learn more details about FCS from the developer, Brian Tuckey, I encourage patients and practitioner’s alike to visit the official counterstrain website directly; Practitioners click HERE, Patients click HERE.
FCS does NOT replace the necessity for consulting with your physician for healthcare. FCS falls into my scope of practice as a Licensed Massage Therapist because I am manipulating the soft tissue to indirectly relax fascia. Please note, I am not directly treating organs or systems of the body.
Post Treatment / Follow Up Care
I’m not a doctor, mental health counselor, dietician, or specialist so I cannot prescribe or tell you what to do. I do encourage you to speak with one of the above or an educated personal trainer to gain specialized and specific advice for your specific needs. I can, however, openly share my own honest experiences of what works best for me as a patient. You can take that for face value and use the ideas to prompt questions for your dietician or doctor to see what would work best for you and your body. You’ll see my quote below, from one friend’s experience to another.
“My best lasting relief after my own sessions of Massage or Counterstrain have been found by just treating my body well and fueling it well. Especially 24 hours before until about 72 hours after receiving treatment, I try to balance what my body needs versus what it wants. That way my inflammation is decreased before I ask for Brian or Chris’ time to help fix me up with Counterstrain and I’m not accumulating more inflammation while my body is trying to release those tender points they just spent time working on.
It’s not a requirement to change habits around the time of my sessions and it won’t make or break the results necessarily, it just makes sense to me to treat my body better to make the best use of the technique benefits that I can. I keep my water bottle nearby to hydrate if I feel extra thirsty. I feel motivated to eat cleaner and less inflammatory foods, and I enjoy going for a family walks in the evening instead of watching movies on the couch to relax. I try to get an amount of sleep that feels restorative or rejuvenating to my body and mind. I may even try an Epsom salt bath the night after I am treated to aid in relaxing my muscles.
None of this is to say you won’t catch me enjoying some southern brew sweet tea, ice cream or cookies from time to time- because you will. I am human, I am not perfect. I am aware that sugar feeds inflammation and I also grew up in the 90’s on poptarts and koolaid so I have a sweet tooth. I just feel healthier and happier when I find balance through moderation; a scoop of ice cream rather than a pint for example. As I age I can really feel the difference of how my body responds to when I fuel it with lean meats, fish, nuts, whole grains, brown rice, fresh veggies and fruits as compared to processed or sugary options. I’m prefer to feel my best, so within reason I do my best to live my life while fueling myself responsibly. It’s been working out better for me that way thus far and I have immense gratitude to the mentors that educated me to feel this way along my path”.
