Grounded Wellness Care

Hi! My name is Kelly Martin, I’m the founder/owner of Grounded Wellness Care, LLC. I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist, United States Marine Corps Veteran, and I’m practicing Fascial Counterstrain technique in Central PA. I was injured in 2019 and found that Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) was the most effective tool for my injury recovery. It’s important to me to feel strong and healthy and FCS has allowed me opportunity to optimally function as a mom and wife again. I earned my massage therapy license in 2024 in order to learn the Fascial Counterstrain curriculum through the Jones Institute, and I have been learning how to heal others using FCS since. My goal is to continue my education to become certified in Fascial Counterstrain so I can help others reach their wellness and health goals.

At one point or another in my journey I really prayed that each healthcare professional I was relying on would be honest, patient, well-educated and would not give up on me. I still pray for that every time I have to ask for help from a professional. Ultimately I want to be that professional for you now. Whether you’re feeling good, strong, and would like to keep it that way or whether you are like me at some point on a journey to recovery physically or psychologically; I believe Fascial Counterstrain is a beneficial healing and wellness tool for many.

What is Fascial Counterstrain?

Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) is a multisystem evaluation and treatment method for the body. FCS targets dysfunction of the fascia to relieve acute and chronic pain while improving quality of life in general. It’s effective in relieving pain without the use of medications. It is an indirect, soft tissue healing modality that decompresses tension in the tissue to reduce inflammation and improve circulation (Tuckey B, 2025).

If you are interested, please feel free to visit the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine online to read Dr. Brian Tuckey’s thorough description and case study of Fascial Counterstrain in ‘Fascial Counterstrain: A Methodological Advancement in Indirect Osteopathic Manipulation’. I promise you, it is a good read with before and after videos of his case study.

I also encourage patients and practitioner’s alike to visit the official counterstrain website directly; Practitioners click HERE, Patients click HERE.

FCS does NOT replace the necessity for consulting with your physician for healthcare. FCS falls into my scope of practice as a Licensed Massage Therapist because I am manipulating the soft tissue to indirectly relax fascia. Please note, I am not directly treating organs or systems of the body.

Post Treatment / Follow Up Care

I’m not a doctor, mental health counselor, dietician, or specialist so I cannot prescribe or tell you what to do. DO NOT take the following information I am sharing as an order and do not take it upon yourself to change your lifestyle without consulting with your primary care provider first. Every body is different and responds to things differently. My experience may not match your experience but overall I have not met many who have not had improvement in some area of their life from utilizing Fascial Counterstrain technique in their care plan. I can, however, openly share my own honest experiences of what works best for me as a patient. You are welcome to use these ideas to prompt questions for your dietician or doctor to see what would work best for you and your body. You’ll see my quote below, from one friend’s experience to another.

“I too am still periodically treated with Fascial Counterstrain as a preventative health measure and because my active lifestyle and career sometimes leaves me feeling like something is tight somewhere that it shouldn’t be. Generally speaking, I feel most effects from my sessions within the first 72-96 hours after. That being said, starting 24 hours prior to session and ending 72 hours after, I set my body and mind up for success by focusing on balance, treating my body well, and fueling it well. Should I probably be doing that 24/7, 365 days a year? Sure. But I’m not perfect, I just want my inflammation levels to be decreased before I ask for Brian or Chris’ time to help me drain the trapped excessive amounts of inflammation. It is by no means required, you could walk in off the street not changing anything and you will still find benefit. However, it takes me little effort to respect my body and the payoff is greater with an overall sense of good health.
I keep my water bottle nearby to hydrate if I feel extra thirsty while my body is working to drain the inflammation released. I enjoy going for a family walk in the evening instead of watching movies on the couch those nights so my body is moving, not stagnating. I keep to a regular bedtime routine to try to get an amount of sleep that feels restorative or rejuvenating because deep and REM sleep are the best times for the lymphatics in your body to drain. I may even try an Epsom salt bath the night I am treated to aid in relaxing my muscles.

It took a lot of effort to learn to respect what my body wanted to fuel it at the beginning in 2020, now it is easier. I was addicted to sugary treats, processed foods, and drinks that weren’t doing me any good most days. I did my own research on what dietary menus would support a low inflammation diet. Once I practiced putting it into play for a few weeks it was a night and day difference so I kept it up. Little steps, substituting out my favorite unhealthy choices with a slightly healthier option one by one steadily. A year later it didn’t feel like a strain to eat healthy because I found new favorites, and I felt better with the new, too!
No one is perfect, I most certainly will never be, I do NOT always eat healthy. I am a mom so I do like to lead by example so my kids don’t struggle as hard with the sweet tooth I acquired from the 90’s. Rest assured though our family goes out for local ice cream time to time, my kids may have a Hershey kiss after dinner if they eat all their vegetables, sometimes my husband and I will have zero energy at the end of the day and hamburger helper will feed our family, and Fridays at my house are definitely dubbed by the kids as hot dog and macaroni and cheese nights. I’m not ashamed. I’m just real. I do pray for the clarity (and mostly energy) one day to make a good habit of orchestrating healthy, balanced meals for every night of the week. My husband and I are not far from that goal. I’m just a work in progress at the moment and I’m okay with that. I’m better than what and who I used to be every day.”
